“Notations: New Work by Jeanne Raffer Beck” at the University of Rochester’s Rush Rhees Library Art &
Music Gallery, May 21st through Friday, June 13th. Please come to the Opening Reception on Wednesday evening, May 21st, 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
This solo exhibition charts the territory of written language and its perceived meanings. Beck combines invented letter forms with round remnants of
handwritten correspondence and old printed texts. Rochester Area Workshop: Spend three enjoyable afternoons exploring painting techniques on silk and cotton at “Experimental Painted Textiles”, Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester NY, July 14-16, 1:30 - 4:30 PM. Looking at images as a series of marks and shapes, observing and responding to the world around us, we’ll paint textiles inspired by patterns and textures found in nature. Fee $80 (members $60). Four of Jeanne’s pieces will be part of the Committed to Cloth exhibition in England at three 2008 Knitting and Stitching Shows: - Sept. 11-14th, Birmingham National Exhibition Centre - October 9th-12th, Alexandria Palace in London - and November 20th-23rd, Harrogate International Centre Other participating artists are: Laura Beehler (USA), Claire Benn (UK), Jane Dunnewold (USA), Claudia Helmer (Germany), Lisa Kerpoe (USA), Linda Maynard (UK), and Leslie Morgan (UK). "Burnt Offerings", article featuring techniques for burning fabric edges, will be published in an upcoming issue (TBA) of American Quilter. "Traces of the Past," profile of four Dutch artists’ work in an exhibition at a Dutch fort, will be published in the August 08 issue of Surface Design Journal.
