Growth

41" x 60"

Growth started as a completed piece of cotton art cloth. I machine quilted through the three layers just enough to hold them together, added the rectangles in seed stitching, and then continued to add more hand stitches in rows across the background and to define the tree branches. After stitching, I brushed on metallic and opaque textile paints to add more dimensionality and depth to the piece. This piece won an Honorable Mention in the Art Quilts Small category in the 2004 IQA exhibition in Houston, TX.
