The process of making is as significant for me as the finished product. Fleshing out an idea, giving it form and discovering the story within the work are what draw me back time and time again into a next new artistic endeavor. The experience is an exercise in trust and each time I enter this process it reveals more about my interior world and the visual language that it contains. I do not always see connections or meaning as I work but the investigations seem to build on each other like chapters in a book.

I spend a great deal of time observing and recording patterns and textures in nature and continuously explore new combinations of color, pattern and design on cloth. Both the patterns used by indigenous peoples in their crafts and textiles and the organic patterns that I see in nature inspire me. I am keenly aware of how human society keeps altering the natural world, and that tension helps inspire the visual language that I use to explore my relationships to both.

It is a romantic notion in the twenty first century, but I feel a strong connection to a past where works crafted by human hands from basic materials were an important part of everyday life, rituals and celebrations.
